As if I need to talk to you about the importance of giving back and being active in your community--You already know why (if you've been stalking my blogs and Twitter feed). Folks, there is yet a another wonderful opportunity to fight homelessness in St. Louis. So you missed the Garbage Bag Gala on July 27th. It's okay. I forgive you. You missed out, but you can make up for it on August 24th.
The St. Louis Salvation Army (and if you can't tell, they're my nonprofit pick in the St. Louis area although there are many wonderful organizations) is hosting a #HomelessHelpSTL Tweet Up at the super fabulous Omni Majestic Hotel in downtown St. Louis. Between 4 and 7 pm, you get to unwind after work, network, and yeah...do the most good.
You need to get your tickets for #HomelessHelpSTL online . That's free. However, when you arrive, graciously pay $5 at the door or come with 2 toiletry donations. The Salvation Army specifically needs toilet paper, shampoo, conditioner, body wash, soap, baby soap, toothbrushes, and toothpaste. Proceeds and donations will go to stocking are homeless shelters.
So really, let me tell you how easy it is to attend this event. After a long day at work, ehh...you need to unwind. Doing that with people who care about others is, I think, one of the best ways to unwind and relax. So you pay $5. That's nothing. Or you're at the store earlier in the week, and while you're picking up body wash and toothpaste for your family, you buy a few extras and bring them to #HomelessHelpSTL. Super simple. There is no reason why you shouldn't come or participate (barring the obvious life obstacles). I will see you there!
